Kasich Commits to Replacing Buckeye Lake Dam

Today Governor John R. Kasich, in a meeting with state and local officials and first responders, announced that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) will immediately begin work to replace Buckeye Lake Dam. A recent report by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) outlined serious structural deficiencies with the dam as well as options for reducing the risk to public safety posed by a catastrophic failure.

Buckeye Lake Dam Emergency Preparedness Steps Taken

On March 16, Ohio EMA and ODNR conducted an emergency preparedness meeting with state and local emergency management officials to discuss current emergency response plans and to encourage potentially impacted residents to be more prepared in the event of an incident involving Buckeye Lake Dam. The meeting was held in response to the recent report by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the conditions of Buckeye Lake Dam.

Report on Buckeye Lake Dam Released

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has issued its report to ODNR which is a review of past reports and existing conditions and recommendations for interim risk reduction measures, operation and maintenance at Buckeye Lake Dam. ODNR is reviewing the report; any decisions to be made will be announced soon.

Lake White Rapidly Filling!

Recent precipitation has rapidly filled the lake beyond desired levels. Action is underway to return the lake to an acceptable level until comprehensive repairs are made to the dam. Siphons that were placed at the dam above the spillway last September during an emergency response again being used at present to reduce the lake level.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ report of its review of the condition of Buckeye Lake Dam

ODNR very soon will be issued the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ report of its review of the condition of Buckeye Lake Dam.

The report will include a review of past engineering reports and existing conditions at Buckeye Lake Dam and recommendations for risk reduction measures, operation and maintenance at the dam.

Lake White: Lake White State Park Dam to Undergo Repairs

COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) today announced notable capital improvement projects at Lake White State Park in Pike County. The most significant of these will be to make long-term risk reduction improvements to the 4,200-foot earthen dam to meet regulatory and safety requirements that are needed prior to restoring the lake level to its normal pool. ODOT also plans to replace the State Route 104 bridge that crosses over the dam spillway and other adjacent roadway improvements.

Pond Lick Lake Dam: Spillway repairs completed

Dam and spillway repairs are completed and a portion of the embankment has been seeded. Approximately 95 percent of all scheduled work at the site is complete. Asphalt paving and remainder of seeding and mulching of the dam is rescheduled for Spring, 2015.
