East Reservoir: Cat Swamp de-watered; refill comes after project completion

Posted on 7/25/2018 by Engineering in Portage Lakes

The Cat Swamp was dewatered to ensure dam safety during construction of the new East Reservoir Dam in Coventry Township at Portage Lakes State Park. ODNR installed temporary docks at the south embankment near the Clock Tower as an alternative water access solution for the affected residents. The Cat Swamp will be allowed to refill next year after construction is completed. Deep-soil mixing at the south embankment was finished in late May and additional site work in that area continues that includes improvements to the spillway. Demolition soon of the north gatewell starts by end of the month in the north embankment area near the Cat Swamp. This work is necessary to construct the sand berm, which will provide the staging area for the deep-soil mixing needed to continue construction of the new dam.
