Lake Loramie: Work continues through holiday period

Many concurrent areas of construction work will continue through the coming holidays.  Below is a list of recent and upcoming areas of work.

Recent work:

  • Placement of concrete for labyrinth spillway cycles and the control tower;
  • Right embankment placement (including upstream riprap);
  • Continued placement of Type C channel protection below spillway;
  • Establishment of diversion berm between existing spillway and new spillway;
  • Excavation to subgrade for portions of left embankment;
  • Installation of the sluice gate, stop logs, handrails on spillway structure, and staff gauges and trash racks;
  • Initiating refilling of the lake between the two cofferdams.

Work items planned for the next several month:

  • Complete lake refill between the two cofferdams by Week of Nov 20;
  • Establish Phase II water control by Week of Nov. 20;
  • Remove the north cofferdam;
  • Dewater left embankment area;
  • Excavate to subgrade and place substrate downstream over the rock channel;
  • Initiate and complete left dam embankment placement;
  • Install left embankment piezometers and final sheeting for Phase II

This project remains on schedule for completion in Spring, 2018
