Indian Lake: Spillway Replacement On Schedule in October

Posted on 10/20/2017 by Engineering in Indian Lake Dam

Demolition of the remaining old spillway at Indian Lake Dam is complete as workers prepare to begin construction of the eastern portion of a new labyrinth spillway.

The design will use the same detail as the new west portion of the spillway. The top of the embankment wall will match the new abutment wall and provide a uniform structure across the length of the new spillway.

By design, the top of the center section of the new spillway will be set slightly lower than the top of the outer sections. A primary feature of the labyrinth design allows for more efficient outflow of water from the lake, but does not change the overall volume of water being discharged when compared to the previous spillway design

The spillway replacement and dam improvements project is approximately two-thirds completed with final completion coming in spring 2018.

The entire job site, including the stream area under the highway bridge and contractor lot across from the spillway, is closed to public access. Motorists and others are reminded to observe the presence of workers and equipment at the work site, which is adjacent to the state highway and spillway outflow.
