Cutler Lake: Lake refill begins, new boat launch ramp installed

Posted on 11/9/2018 by Engineering in Cutler Lake

Visitors to Blue Rock State Park have an early gift from ODNR in their holiday gift bag this holiday season. Shortly after installing a new concrete boat launch ramp, the lake was allowed to begin refilling slowly as work on the dam and other park improvements nears its final completion next month. Workers are expected to be off the job site and home for the holidays a couple weeks before Christmas. Before they go, a series of campground improvements also are underway that include a new shelter house, grills and picnic tables. Among many items accomplished in recent weeks, workers have:

  • Completed the backfill around the lake drain extension.
  • Raised the embankment crest.
  • Completed topsoil placement.
  • Completed the downstream channel slope stabilization.
  • Improved the hiking trail.
  • Seeded and mulched the embankment.

In the remaining weeks of the project, workers also will:

  • Complete electric hookups.
  • Install a new pump house and pump.
  • Install pavement in the campground.
  • Continue to raise and monitor the lake level.

Hand-powered watercraft and watercraft with electric motors only are permitted for use on Cutler Lake. The lake will be stocked with several species of gamefish in time for spring fishing season.
