Long Lake: Project completed

Posted on 11/6/2017 by Engineering in Portage Lakes Long Lake

Work has been completed to make spillway improvements and replace the Long Lake floodgates along Manchester Road in Portage Lakes state park. Engineering design was provided by Tetra Tech and construction by the Canton-based Beaver Excavating Company. Work began in 2016 and was completed Fall, 2017. The long-term plan calls for ODNR to continue its routine inspections and maintenance of the new structure. The project is part of a larger plan to bring dam structures within Portage Lakes into regulatory compliance and to preserve Ohio’s canal system. Recently completed dam remediation projects include West Reservoir (2012) and the Tuscarawas Diversion Dam (2014). Work is soon to begin on improvements to the East Reservoir Dam; planning continues for remediation work on the North Reservoir Dam..
