Portage Lakes North Reservoir: Dam Improvement Design Work Continues

Posted on 3/15/2019 by Engineering in Portage Lakes

Final design work continues in coordination with Tetra Tech for improvements to the North Reservoir Dam in Portage Lakes State Park. ODNR has applied for the required permits; once they are received construction can begin. Plans call for final design work to be completed in spring. ODNR plans to hold a public open house to share project information before construction begins.

The Beaver Excavating Company in Canton recently was selected and contracted to serve as Construction Manager at Risk and will be overseeing the dam remediation project. ODNR expects soil-cement construction work to begin this fall. Pre-construction activities may begin as early as summer. Normal lake operations will be maintained during construction, but may be adjusted at any time to meet dam safety needs.

North Reservoir residents will soon receive their dock permits for the 2019 boating season. Though pre-construction activities are expected to begin this summer, access to docks is not expected to be affected. If an interruption should need to occur, ODNR intends to notify and provide temporary dock access for affected residents.
