ODNR Receives Regional Dam Safety Award

Posted on 9/12/2016 by Engineering in Buckeye Lake Dam

ODNR has received the 2016 Midwest Regional Award of Merit from the Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO). The association gives this award annually to individuals and organizations working in the dam safety field that have made outstanding contributions to dam safety on a regional level.

Ohio has dedicated more than $230 million in capital funding over the past two biannual budget cycles for design and construction of improvements for state-owned dams. This increased funding has resulted in 12 dam rehabilitation projects launched in the past three years that are focused on addressing the highest hazard potential dams owned and maintained by the State of Ohio.

Dam repairs under construction or completed in the last five years include structures at Buckeye Lake, Lake White, Hueston Woods, Portage Lakes, Strouds Run, Jefferson, Mt. Gilead, Shawnee, Pike and Lake Alma state parks. Dam repairs currently in the design phase, which precede construction, include structures at Portage Lakes, Buckeye Lake, Lake Loramie, Indian Lake and Blue Rock state parks.

Please be aware: for your safety, crossing the fence to the Embankment Stability Berm is prohibited except for emergency responders and authorized personnel. Do no cross the fence for any reason.
