ODNR to Exercise Lake Drains at Buckeye Lake

Posted on 4/2/2015 by Engineering in Buckeye Lake Dam

ODNR will exercise its lake drains at Buckeye Lake for a seven-day test period beginning Thursday, April 2. The testing is part of an ODNR interim risk reduction measure to draw down the reservoir level to winter pool elevation in accordance with risk reduction recommendations issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers earlier in March.

The exercising of the lake drains, located at the primary (Route 79) and secondary (Sellers Point) spillways, will result in increased water flows through each spillway outlet channel. ODNR has installed water depth gauges and will monitor areas at and below each spillway during the test period.

The Corps of Engineers’ recommendation to draw down the lake to winter or lower pool elevation is designed to partially address critical embankment conditions until completion of yet-to-be determined comprehensive risk reduction measures.
