Mt. Gilead: Pedestrian Bridge Coming To Upper Dam Fall, 2018

Posted on 6/11/2018 by Engineering in Mt. Gilead Lake Lower Dam

The lake at Mt. Gilead State Park in Morrow County is refilled, stocked with gamefish and open to visitors following construction completion of a new dam, spillway and other related improvements. The refilled lake received a stocking of largemouth bass, channel catfish, sunfish and bluegills in early May, which will provide a continually growing sport fishery.

ODNR this fall will be installing a new pedestrian bridge across the recently improved Upper Dam to allow for safety inspection and maintenance access to both sides of the structure which guides water inflow into the main lake. The pedestrian bridge also will serve as a connector as part of the park’s ongoing trail access improvements. Staff will be rerouting walking trails to avoid wet areas and remove any unsafe steps and boardwalk sections.

ODNR also will install a new kayak/canoe launch in an accessible area along the shoreline downstream of the Upper Dam. Road resurfacing is under design at the Ohio Department of Transportation. Resurfacing will include drainage improvements, additional parking near the commissary, asphalt patching and a chip-seal surface over the entire area. Additional park offerings and events can be found online at

Construction site as of June 07, 2018
