Portage Lakes: East Reservoir; Dam Improvements To Get Underway

Posted on 7/11/2017 by Engineering in Portage Lakes

Pre-construction activity on the East Reservoir Dam Improvements Project gets underway during July. Starting July 17, the Ruhlin Company and its subcontractors will begin installing fencing to secure construction work areas. They will also remove trees and other existing landscaping to create a clear work zone for construction crews and to make way for the major improvements to follow. A turbidity curtain will be put in the water to separate the construction zone from the rest of the lake. This will keep soils that are affected by the construction process –and make the water appear muddy—from making water outside the construction zone cloudy.

By late July, area residents will begin to see trucks bringing in heavy equipment; look for roadway flaggers and follow their directions and signs to assure your safety and theirs. Boaters should stay well clear of the turbidity curtain and work zone. There is no public access allowed past the safety fencing and anywhere within the site at any time. Letters offering home and well inspections were mailed June 30 to residents within 500-feet of dam construction. If you received a letter, please set-up your inspection appointment by July 14. While the potential for any damage to property due to construction is extremely low, the purpose of the inspection is to confirm current conditions so that should any damage occur, the claim can be accurately documented. If you did not receive a letter and think you should have, please contact Angela DelBrocco at adelbrocco@murphyepson.com or (614) 221-2885, ext. 18.
