Portage Lakes North Reservoir: Public Information Meetings Set for April 10

Posted on 4/2/2018 by Engineering in Portage Lakes

Representatives of ODNR and engineering firm Tetra Tech, Inc. will host two public information sessions to provide information and seek community input on preliminary design plans for remediation of the North Reservoir dam and spillway in Portage Lakes State Park.

One briefing will be held from 4-5pm on Tuesday, April 10, followed by an identical briefing 6-7pm. The sessions are open to the public and being held at the Division of Wildlife District 3 office located at 912 Portage Lakes Drive.

This community outreach effort will be followed by ODNR’s submittal of environmental permit applications to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which are required prior to construction start. The Ohio EPA and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as part of their respective permit application process, each can be expected to separately announce their request for public comment and may conduct a public hearing if deemed necessary. These comment periods and public hearings are to address any interests or concerns primarily with the water quality aspects of the proposed North Reservoir dam remediation project.

Construction is planned to start in 2019. Lake levels will not be impacted by construction, but could be adjusted at any time to address dam safety needs.
