Portage Lakes North Reservoir: Prelimary work underway

Posted on 6/27/2019 by Engineering in Portage Lakes

Preliminary work activities for the North Reservoir Dam project have begun. Deposits of sand are being placed around the east embankment to compact soft soils in this area. The sand will remain in place for the duration of dam construction.

The Beaver Excavating Company and its subcontractor, The Ruhlin Company, will also begin installing temporary fencing to secure the construction work area around the east embankment. Additionally, obstructions such as small brush and trees will be removed to create a clear work zone for construction crews.

There will be trucks delivering sand to the site. Please watch for flaggers and follow their directions and signs to assure your safety and theirs.

A turbidity curtain will be put in the water to separate the construction zone from the rest of the lake. This will prevent soils affected by the construction process from making water outside the construction zone cloudy. Boaters need to stay clear of the turbidity curtain and other areas adjacent to the work zone, which will be well-marked.

Views of preliminary construction as of 6/27/2019.
