Buckeye Lake: Interim Summer Pool & Construction Update

Posted on 4/18/2018 by Engineering in Buckeye Lake Dam

To protect public safety, ODNR will continue to operate the lake drains to keep the water level at interim summer pool this year. The interim summer pool reduces risk while allowing for more boating during construction. In 2019, after the dam is completed, the normal recreational season will resume at Buckeye Lake.

There’s been a great deal of progress made on the Buckeye Lake Dam Construction project in the past month. Residents may notice increased noise during the day as different equipment is being used to install sheet piling along the dam.

AMIL GATE: Improvements have begun at the Amil Gate, which is the principal spillway at Buckeye Lake. Because of construction, the area has been de-watered and is not being used to measure water levels. The park office gauge is currently being used for water level readings. The updated water level measurement can be found at: http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/buckeyelake.

SELLERS SPILLWAY: A total of 17 siphon pipes are currently in place. These siphons will help ODNR manage the lake level while the Amil Gate spillway and lake drain are out of service.

CRANE LAKE/NORTH SHORE: Current work includes installing sheet piling for seepage control.

SIDEWALK: Sidewalk installation will resume in approximately two weeks. The work will be performed in 2,000 ft. stretches, beginning near Sellers spillway and moving north. Impacted residents in each stretch will be notified two weeks in advance.

SOIL MIX BUTTRESS: As of April 16, both pass one and pass two have been installed. One of the trenchers has been moved off site and the other trencher is working on the third pass, which is 70% installed. Overall, the buttress is 90% installed, pending performance-testing results and acceptance.

SAFETY REMINDER: The dam embankment from the homes to the lake remains an active construction site. For your safety, site access is limited to emergency responders and authorized personnel.

Please be aware: for your safety, crossing the fence to the Embankment Stability Berm is prohibited except for emergency responders and authorized personnel. Do no cross the fence for any reason.
