Portage Lakes North Reservoir: Water being lowered to inspect spillway

Posted on 12/6/2018 by Engineering in Portage Lakes

On Wednesday, December 5 ODNR staff detected a gate malfunction at the North Reservoir primary spillway during routine operations. In response and to reduce any potential risk to public safety, ODNR began immediately lowering the water by at least 15 inches in the East, West and North reservoirs. All three must be lowered due to the interconnected nature of the Portage Lakes State Park waterways.

Dock owners will notice activity at North and West reservoirs while workers conduct inspections and perform interim risk reduction measures. The replacement of the spillway is among a larger dam improvements project at North Reservoir slated for construction beginning in Spring, 2019.
